Nackgammon is the same as backgammon apart from the starting position which doubles the number of men back.

As with standard backgammon it's of great importance to make home points, especially the high ones near the bar so that you can block your opponent's back men and also to keep them on the bar when you hit. It cannot be said strongly enough: Home points! Home points!! Home points!!!

But the starting position means that you must put extra emphasis on getting your backrunners moving. Don't let them get trapped by your opponent making their high home points!

The best way to do this is to make it a high priority to get an anchor. An anchor is a blocked point, one that you have two or more men on, ie. one that cannot be hit. The "anchoriness" is due to where you have it. If you make a blocked point in your opponent's home then you have an anchor, or if you make a block next to their bar point. That one is, no surprise, a "bar point anchor". ;-)

In nackgammon you want to make a bar point anchor or a "5-point anchor". That's the point highest point in your opponent's home, next to the men that they have stacked on their 6-point at the start.

The formation of an anchor means that you can get the other back men out and also have somewhere to get in if you're knocked to the bar.

Nackgammon has plenty of other intrigues, it's like a messy, complicated game of backgammon (guerilla warfare), but focusing on anchoring your back men and getting the others out while blocking your own home will help give you a good start.

Have fun
:-)
