It's finally time! This weekend we're doing the big update we've been talking about. See this post for more about what's in the update, but basically we're adding tournaments, better site navigation, color themes, official player pictures, and a few other things. Fact is, we're really quite excited about it. But don't worry, the fundamentals of Pocket-Monkey -- keeping it a friendly place to play games -- are untouched.
A couple of important notes:
Obviously, Pocket-Monkey will be down for a while during the upgrade. (By "down" I mean you'll see a message saying we're closed for maintenance.) I expect to start at about 8:00 a.m. BST (GMT+1) Saturday morning. I've done a dry run and it should take about three hours; so I'm figuring it'll take 10. ;-) But don't hesitate to drop by earlier, just in case I'm done! I'll be eager to see people logging in...
Obviously, I'll have timeouts suspended while the site's down (and probably for a day or two longer, just until I'm sure everything's working).
When the site comes back, you may see a message telling you to go to a different URL (instead of the usual http://www.pocket-monkey.com). I don't think that's likely, but it's possible. This is because we're also changing where we host the site, and it can sometimes take a while for a change to where "www.pocket-monkey.com" points to make its way throughout the web. Most people shouldn't have a problem, but some ISPs may be slower than others at picking up the change. (In general it should take two hours at most; for you techies, it's not a nameserver change -- those can take up to 48 hours.)
We're updating our User Agreement and Privacy Policy slightly as of the upgrade. As promised in the current policies, we'll send an email to all accounts on Pocket-Monkey once the new policies are in place. Don't worry, the changes are nothing draconian, we're just saying explicitly that we don't allow cheating, and making it clearer that we do require a valid email address on all accounts where we can really reach the account holder if we need to. (So no made-up addresses, and no addresses created only to create the account and then never checked again.) We continue to be clear about never sharing your email address with anyone (barring a legal order to do so).
So hopefully by Saturday evening (maybe sooner!) British time, you'll have a bunch of new features to play with! As I've said before, we won't start our first tourney until at least a week or two after the update goes live, but we'll start sign-ups right away. :-)

Cool! I'll be going on vacation on Saturday, but I'll be back on the 4th of June and will probably be able to log on first on June 5th, and I will be very excited to see it and enter some tournaments then!
ya ya been a long wait. but I hope it all will work out good for you. You have the best site, and now it will be all that much better. I wish you the best of luck with the update . I will be here and looking forward to a lot more fun here too. Yahoooooooooooooo tournaments. get ready to play in 2 weeks. . Bring it on. I'm probably going to start around 10:00 instead of 8:00 (BST; GMT+1). Turns out I have a bit more prep work to do, and there's no reason you can't keep playing your games in the meantime! :-)
