How to play Ladders?

Single game of backgammon will be the game of choice for this ladder as this seems to be the most popular game on the site.
(Personally I prefer Hyper but the needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few)

The time control must be set to a 3 day limit. Hopefully people will play faster than this but it does allow for those long

weekends when you cannot get to a computer (or choose to have a life for a few days)

Pocket-Monkey Ladders has been created solely for the purpose of fun with a bit of competition thrown into the mix.
Remember !!!! Even if you lose, it doesn't matter. There will always be the time when some players go on a bit of a winning

streak and climb the rungs faster at times. Such is the nature of Backgammon and the dice in single game matches.

1) Ladders can be created for only single game Backgammon with 3 day limits as this appears to be the most popular game on

Pocket-Monkey

2) Your status is shown as a "Rung" - everyone starts at Rung 1. If you win a game, you move up 1 Rung. If you lose a game,

you move down 1 Rung. (you cannot drop lower than Rung 1. Such depths are solely reserved for my accounting degree marks)

3) You are allowed to play up to 2 games at the same time - 1 game where you challenge and 1 game when someone challenges

you. When a challenge is created, it must be sent to me in a PM to allow me to verify if the challenge is legitimate. I will

then send a PM to both players that the ladder game is to commence and the challenging player has the responsibility to send

the game invite to the other player.

4) Warning! The timeouted ladder games will count as a win the same as would be the case in a tournament

5) You can only challenge another player (who is not already challenged by someone else) on the same Rung or within 2 lower

or higher than you. For example, if you are on Rung 6, you may challenge players from Rung 4, 5, 6, 7 or 8 except for the

following situation.

6) The exception to the challenge rule is that if the closest person above you is greater than 2 rungs away, (eg you are rung

4 and the next person up is rung 7) then you are allowed to challenge that person so long as you are not playing that person

twice in a row.

7) You cannot play the same person 2 times in a row.

8) There is an option to leave the Ladder if you don't want to play it anymore. However, if you do this, you will lose your

current Rung position and if you decide to re-enter in the future, you will start on the Rung 1 again.

9) Game results must be sent to me in a PM by the winning person and the message must also state who the opponent was that

they beat. I will then confirm the result by sending a PM to the losing person. However, to speed up this process it would be

very helpful to me if both players sent me the PM right after the game which would be much easier for me to correlate the

result and update the ladder website.
Teamwork is the key here. The ladder is to be fun for everyone so everyone's help will be greatly appreciated.

10) It's tough to say this one but it has to be said. If anyone "cheats" intentionally in any way, they will get a first

warning slap on the hand, and any occurences thereafter will result in being asked to leave the ladder for a period of 7

days. They would then have to join again at the lowest rung.
Honest mistakes can happen and a mistake is NOT cheating. If I get conflicting reports of a match result, I will assume

someone simply made a mistake and re-verify the results in a PM

Lastly:
Please be a little patient with me when it comes to verifying challenges and updating the ladders etc.
There may also be required rule changes if there is something I have overlooked here and if any rules have to be changed, I

will notify all ladder participants that there is a change, explain on a board message on the backgammon forum what and why

the changes are and also post it on the Ladder website.

Lets all have fun. If you feel that you would like to see any changes to the format I have laid out here, it is always a work

in progress so please feel free to send me a PM of your suggestions. I will take all suggestions into account.

Lets start climbing !!!!

The current players who have indicated they wish to participate are as follows

paully
DJ
Oregon Woman
cathM
jazzba
haggis muncher
gogdog
Purple Mist
Purplerose
RedBaron
dustbunnyrob
donnye

All challenges must be in a PM to me. The are processed on a first come first serve basis.
For example, if Oregon Woman sends me a PM saying that she challenges cathM, and then gogdog sends me a PM just after that

also challenging cathM, then Oregon Woman's challenge will stand and gogdog would have to challenge someone else.

If you have any questions, please feel free to either post them on this forum, or alternatively you can PM me. I think public

questions are preferable in most cases because it allows others to also learn from the question.
