Hi everyone, I have seen all of the threads here on PocketMonkey's forums begging for tournaments. I had an idea. Over on DailyGammon.com, another turn-based games site (they only do backgammon) they have this cool thing called "private tourneys". It's where one player makes up the rules, posts them to the forum, and people sign up by posting to that thread. They later invite their assigned opponent to a match, and when the match is finished, report it on the forum. In essence, you can get some pretty cool tourneys in that you just aren't going to get out of the site normally. So I thought, "why not do that on pocket-monkey? People are practically begging the site owners to do tourneys anyway!" I decided to host a private tourney here. Over at DailyGammon, where I am known as "newguy", I host a tournament called the 'Tiny Tournament'. I will be using the same rules over here, obviously tailored to work on the pocket-monkey system. Here are the rules: First thing, the reason why it's called "Tiny" is because only 16 players can participate. The first 16 players to sign up by typing "in please" to this thread will be entered. There are four rounds. On the dailygammon system, match length increased by twos: 1, 3, 5, 7. As there are no three or seven point matches available here, here's how it will go: Round 1 will be 1 point matches; Round 2 will also be 1 pt. (regular backgammon) Round 3 will be Backgammon Match 5. Round 4 will be Backgammon Match 9. When I post your "matchup", the first player listed invites his/her opponnent to the specified game. Each round will not start until the last round has finished in its entirety. Please do not invite until your matchup has been posted. Just type "in please" and post it to this thread to sign up!

Whoops! I forgot to mention something about the rules for this Tiny Tournament. The time limit is "3 days". For Rounds 1 and 2 you will invite your opponent to a Backgammon match. For Round 3 you will invite your opponent to a game of Backgammon Match 5. For Round 4 you will invite your opponent to a game of Backgammon Match 9.

Where is the test server? Who gets to use it? BTW TJ would you be able to promote this tourney of mine possibly? So far hardly anyone has noticed and I need some more signups--16 people total must be signed up in order for it to continue much farther!

Hi, We've got a full complement of testers for now, but thanks! On promotion, sure, I'm happy to put something up. Previously we've avoided being involved with tournaments that were run externally but played here (there have been a couple of these in the past) mostly because they required that people go to other sites to register their wins/losses, which we thought might be confusing. But since you're doing it right here in the forum, I don't think it'll be a problem for people. It's about time for a testing update anyway, so I'll mention this there. Enjoy your tourney! -- T.J. I lost to sparky. Good game! BTW CathM simply invite dalyark to a game of Backgammon. That's all! And as long as you have some way of remembering that it's the Tiny Tournament game, (I just type Tiny Tournement Game in the chat and it will stay in the chat log as a reminder), when the game is finished, report the outcome here.

Hi everyone! I just have to make a note of something. Apparently the site owners don't like me sharing my account via bugmenot.com and they closed the account; thus I opened a new one, with the same username I use on DailyGammon.com. So from now on, I will be known as newguy.

They were not supposed to play a match together. The rules say that each round will not start until the previous round has completed in its entirety. I will count sparky's win over dalyark anyway because they were to play anyway, but I will not allow this in the future. From now on, please remember: DO NOT PLAY A GAME UNLESS I HAVE MATCHED YOU WITH AN OPPONENT IN THE FORUM: soandso vs. soandso. The "Players moving on to Round x:" thing is just for your information. Often when certain matches finish before others players will not play each other in the order listed on the Players who will continue to Round x thing. I have a tournament bracket stored on my computer, and it shows who plays who. It is impossible to post this here because it only looks right in a fixed-width font, which is not used in the pocket-monkey forum. So I have it set up so that you can only start your match when I tell you who you are to play.

I have a couple of things to announce. First, I swapped Raylena and bacall around in the brackets so Raylena invites...that should hurry things along. And remember if bacall doesn't respond in a week Raylena is automatically awarded the win and moves on to the next round. Also, I noticed a few "in please"es at the beginning of this thread that I apparently missed. There are three missed signups, so I asked two if they still wanted in, and will ask the third if one says no. kev just confirmed he still wanted in, so I'll sign him up. Yes. You are not moving on yet. Round 2 will not start until Round 1 will finish in its entirety. I am not posting the updated matchups yet (even though I can) because I am not on the computer that contains the bracket files and if I do it on this computer it will REALLY mess up things. Stay tuned for an update--it will come soon.

Even though I can't see his message here I am still seeing that the message count for this thread has increased by 1, so I'll assume he posted and it was just hidden. Nonetheless, this means that Round 2 can now start! As I mentioned when I announced this tournament, Round 2, like Round 1, will consist of a 1 point, regular Backgammon match. Hi, They're not hidden in a literal sense (mrloupcity's message is here), but perhaps hidden in the way a tree is hidden in the forest, so a new thread is probably the way to go.
