Well, we've had our first major outage in a LONG time: It started at about 17:20 (GMT) on the 9th and happened all at once. The web server lost its ability to connect to the database server. Of course, it just so happens that this was just a little bit after I checked in with the site for the last time before going away for a couple of days with no internet connection! So although it wasn't a big problem, I couldn't do anything about it for a while.
No games were timed-out while the site was down or anything like that, and as ever, no game data was lost.
Sorry for the hassle! Timeouts will be off for a few days to give people a chance to come back to the site and play their games.
The good news is that the server restructuring I worked out a few weeks ago and plan to do late this year would have made this error transparent (to you, not to me). So although we're not prone to lots of failures, once I get that in place we'll have even fewer of them.
THANK YOU TJ! Glad to have you back, and glad to know it was simply a glitch and nothing more. As always, because I have been here since almost the beginning days of the site, I appreciate all of your hard work on Pocket-Monkey. It sure does figure, though, that it would take you trying to take a few days off for yourself for this to happen! I'm just glad things are ok. On with the gaming!!
Hello all you good friends that are in Tournment Games with me. Since we have been back to our games, my game board's are all destorted. It takes to long to make a move. So I'm deleteing my tournment games and trying to finish up my other one's. Then I'll check in once in awhile to see if everything is back to normal.
Nothing's changed at our end, so just checking back periodically probably won't make any difference. Rather than resigning all your tourney games, I suggest trying to determine what's causing the problem and dealing with that.
If you're using our Java games, I'd try these steps from the help.
If you're using our DHTML (WebTV-compatible) games, I'd suggest:
Clearing your browser cache and seeing if that helps
Making sure you don't have the browser set to "zoom" the site
If you're using a WebTV box, actually turning it off and back on after clearing cache
