Hi all,

This change is now live, Pocket-Monkey's applet is now "signed" but still asks to be run in the security sandbox (for your protection). Make sure you're using an up-to-date version of Java (Java 7 Update 40 is latest, anything starting with Update 25 is fine), since if you aren't, the applet will request "unlimited" access to your computer. We don't need, want, or use that unlimited access, but with the latest version of Java, you don't have to take my word for it. :-)

With the latest, the first time you go into a game, you'll see this message:
Do you want to run this application?

Name: com.pocket-monkey.games.mumble.Mumble (those last parts vary)
Publisher: Farsight Software Ltd
Location: www.pocket-monkey.com

This application will run with limited access that is intended to protect your computer and personal information.

[ ] Do not show this again for apps from the publisher and location above

[Run] [Cancel]
(Farsight Software is my company.) If you tick the checkbox and click Run, you shouldn't see that message again unless you reinstall Java.

No more nagging from Oracle/Sun or your browser, hopefully!

Enjoy your (nag-free) games!

Well done! Thank you T.J. for researching the solution and getting us rid of the nagging prompt forever.

YAHOO!!! I still get it once in a while, one of my other sites, but a lot less than it was before.

Thank YOU, T.J.

If I haven't been using Java, any reason to switch?

The Java versions of the games play faster and have fewer issues. The non-Java version has never graduated from "experimental" status, although they work well most of the time.

Hmm. Well, the games certainly proceed faster than before. I have trouble getting java to work the first time on each of my respective platforms/browsers, which is annoying, but surmountable.(Aside: Wow, I have 7 different devices I can use to access Pocket-Monkey... <_< >_>)

I preferred having my chat below my games, rather than crammed into the slice of screen on the right. Screenshots:
Java
Non-Java

Any chance that chat on the bottom could be put into the java applet (maybe as an option)?

Between the accesibility of the solution and the chat window I might yet go back to the non-java version. Undecided.

That said, thanks for your ongoing development of P-M! You're too good to us.

Hi Jon,

When we replace the applet entirely, we'll probably offer a choice about where the chat goes.

Hi,

Sounds like a fairly obscure caching issue, and/or possibly an older version of Java?

First I'd try clearing your Java cache. If that doesn't work, with apologies, I'd suggest completely uninstalling Java, then installing the latest (Java 7 Update 40) from scratch.

Hope this helps,
