From reports by various players in various different locations, as well as my own experience, we're experiencing intermittent speed issues which aren't immediately obviously related to how many people are on the site at one time.
In this thread, the consensus was that the site ran at about the same speed, maybe just a little faster (if you were in that thread, the average vote was "C and a third"). And I think that's mostly true, for me anyway (I live pretty far away from the servers, network-wise) it's generally a little bit faster -- but then I run into these times when it just crawls along.
Anyway, I wanted to let people know we're aware of the problem and we're trying to diagnose where the problem is -- is it our database server, our web server, our network connection, other sites in the same data center sharing our network connection, etc.

My gut says DB server....but of course, my gut is about four years out-of-date now. :-)
Good luck with it, and keep up the good work on the site! I'm really liking the new features and even though I got to help test on the beta site, it's really nice having them here now, too!
My investigation into the speed problems (not to mention the server going down) continues with the data center. I'm sorry for any hassle; it's like this sometimes when you move house. :-) -- T.J. Crowder First Primate Pocket-Monkey.com
boy, TJ, today the speed on this site has been awful. i keep getting 'waiting for pocket.com'. takes forever to get a roll, get to next game, etc. hate to make ya nuts about it and i understand you're having problems. just wanted you to know.
Tonight seems especially bad. Believe me, I'm, er, talking with the data center about it. 99% sure it's not a problem with our servers. -- T.J. Crowder First Primate Pocket-Monkey.com
Okay, I'm kind of glad to say that I think part of the slow-down this evening might have been a configuration issue *I* introduced. ("Glad" because that's something I can control.) Or it could have just been timing, where my config change happened to coincide with a particularly bad example of the issues we've been having with the data center.
Needless to say, I've backed out the config change -- which should have had the opposite effect. ;-)
I'm now aggressively pursuing other data center choices and in particular looking for a DC that specialises in the kind of infrastructure we use here at PM.
We will get these speed issues sorted out, and soon. Long-time players here know we don't put up with these sorts of things for long. Meanwhile, thank you for your patience. -- T.J. Crowder First Primate Pocket-Monkey.com
now playing on my webtv........it seems very slow......sometimes it does pick up some..............but playing my games on my dads computer not having a bit of problem at allllllll.........very fast here..............
Whew, it's been a busy few days. Thank you to everyone who wrote in letting me know when things were especially slow. I'm now analyzing the information I've been gathering (automatically and manually and from you) to see what's going on.
I'll post an update when I have news, sorry again for any delays.
