Well, the summer didn't quite go as planned, lots of challenges cropped up (both related to the site and outside it) which meant I couldn't do as many new games during the Summer of New Games as I wanted to. Don't get me wrong, I hope you're enjoying the new ones (HyperGammon, LongGammon, Anti-Checkers, Anti-Checkers Standoff, and Gomoku - Connect6) but really those are just variations on games we already had.
The Autumn of New Games So welcome (as of tomorrow, technically) to the Autumn of New Games! ;-) The Autumn of New Games will definitely include Halma and Pente, our two most popularly-requested games. It may also include another variation or two (like Angled Mill) on our current games, and maybe one or two more new ones as well. We've had lots of excellent suggestions (thanks!), especially since the Summer of New Games began, and we've also found a few that we think would be good and even had a couple of ideas of our own.
Looking beyond... We won't be doing all of the games that have been suggested (yet), though. The Autumn of new games will wind to a close -- hopefully early in the autumn -- once we have Halma, Pente, and a couple of other games/variations in place. At that point, here at Pocket-Monkey Central we'll need to focus on doing some internal work which may not be obvious at first on the site, things to improve how the site works, particularly for people who can't (or prefer not to) use Java. While we're doing that internal stuff, we'll also be laying the groundwork for entirely new types of games, like Scrabble and other word-oriented games, possibly Cribbage and some card-oriented games, and some other things.
Not that that means we won't sneak a couple of new features onto the site in the meantime... ;-)
i really hope you do get some word games like scrabble here... i would play here even more... (like its possible!) some card games would be fun too.... also would like to say thanks for the upcoming tournament (the ultra fast) i am one of those that can hardly wait for pple to make moves (very impatient) this should help... lol keep up the great work

I am in agreeance with Magic.. yes, yes, yes, please CRIBBAGE..(but don't forget Halma) hehe.. Crikey, you guys are magicians... Thank you :)
CRIBBAGE??? REALLY??? IS THAT A PROMISE, T.J.??? WOO-HOOO!!! I CAN HARDLY WAIT!! THANKS A MILLION!! I'VE BEEN DYING TO FIND AN ONLINE VERSION OF CRIBBAGE FOR AGES!!! THAT WILL MAKE A GREAT ADDITION TO THE MANY FINE GAMES ALREADY BEING PLAYED HERE.
Gosh. Now, we've had a lot of requests for Cribbage (it's our most popularly-requested card game, just like Scrabble is our most popularly-requested word game and Yahtzee our most popularly-requested dice game), and it'll definitely be the first card game we do, but wow I had no idea it would be that popular! Well, we do need to make those internal changes first, but hopefully early next year...
OH, YES! CRIBBAGE WOULD BE AN EXCITING NEW ADDITION TO THE LIST OF GAMES ALREADY BEING OFFERED HERE, T.J.! FINALLY BEING ABLE TO PLAY CRIBBAGE ONLINE WILL REALLY MAKE ME, AND A LOT OF OTHER FOLKS HERE, VERY HAPPY INDEED!!! 8^))
PLEASE MAKE SURE IT IS WEBTV COMPATIBLE THOUGH! I HAVE NOT BEEN ABLE TO FIND A GAME SITE WITH AN ONLINE CRIBBAGE GAME THAT WORKS WITH WEBTV! 8^( MOST GAME SITES REQUIRE JAVA CAPABILITIES. COMPUTER USERS HAVE A DISTINCT ADVANTAGE WHEN IT COMES TO HAVING THIS JAVA CAPABILITY; WEBTV USERS DO NOT! GUESS WHICH CATEGORY I FALL INTO? LOLOLOLOL!!!
THANKS FOR YOUR CONSIDERATION IN ADDING CRIBBAGE, SCRABBLE (ANOTHER POPULAR FAVORITE OF MANY FOLKS!) AND YAHTZEE TO OUR LIST OF POCKET-MONKEY GAMES. THIS SITE IS HEADING TO THE TOP OF THE CLASS IN MY BOOK!!! KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK, T.J.!!!
I've was a member of IYT for a couple of years, and pretty much stopped playing there after my subscription ran out. I just came across your site in the last week or two, and I must tell you I will NEVER start another game over there! Your site is more user friendly on a PC and far more user friendly on MSN TV. I would love to see Yahtzee. I'm also a pretty big fan of Gin, when it's played correctly (with points). Also, a 7-point backgammon game would be nice. I've played the game seriously for a few years now, and just barely started reading a book which has improved my game already; the author claims that the only "real" way to play is with 7-point matches. Just an idea, I know opinions are like !@#$!@#$!!!
On seven-point BG, no reason we couldn't add it but we do already have nine-point matches and 21-point matches, you might want to check those out. In proper BG tournaments, they play to at least 21 and frequently 23 or 25 points -- to even out the luck factor of the dice. I'm not sure even seven games is enough to do that. :-)
Down-the-line, we're planning to have it so you and your opponent can choose the match length -- just about any odd number you want. But that won't be until next year sometime.
