We've moved the Next Game link from above the top right-hand side of the board to above the top left-hand side of the board. Apologies in advance for the hassle! We have a good reason for doing it, and it'll only be until later this year.
(If you're using WebTV, you can ignore this, it doesn't apply to our special game page for WebTV users; but if you're using a computer, this applies to you.)
So why did we move it? Well, Dr Feelgood realized that his browser crashed much less often if his cursor wasn't above the ads after clicking Next Game (which it usually was, because he has to scroll down to see the full board). Several other players verified his results, as did I. It's a strange interaction between Internet Explorer, Sun's Java plug-in, and Google's ads. See this this forum thread for details.
So we've moved the link over so it's much less likely that people will run into this. We've moved it even if you're using a browser other than IE (and even if you're using the DHMTL [not Java] games) in order to present a consistent interface to nearly all users (again, we have a special version of the game page for WebTV users because of their extremely limited screen size).
I'm sure this will bother a lot of people at first, because it's hard to change the click habit and most of us are used to clicking Send and then moving the mouse upward just slightly and clicking Next Game. Hopefully we'll all get used to it. Later this year, though, a more thorough redesign is coming down the pike which should make this unnecessary.
Thanks in advance for your patience while we all adjust, and enjoy your games! -- T.J. Crowder First Primate Pocket-Monkey.com
I would occasionally click on the NEXT GAME button by mistake instead of the SEND button, then I would have to redo the move and send it. So actually, I like the new location of the NEXT GAME button...I hope it stays there permanently.

Yes, I had the same problem with clicking 'next game' instead of 'send'. I had to keep going back to 'games' to see which games were yet to be played and heard myself say many times, 'Hey, I played that already!' Keep the button 'next game' where it is now. It makes playing easier and it sort of makes a definite 'end of move' maneuver with the mouse. Keep up the good work. You have an excellent site. Just don't tell my boss. :-)
An option to do that is on our To Do list, but it's much more complicated than it sounds, technically. It's also not appropriate to all games. (For instance, in RadarWar, you probably want to see the outcome of your shots...) But it's definitely part of what we're working on as part of the update later this year. -- T.J. Crowder First Primate Pocket-Monkey.com
Well make it an option - for me, I personally don't care about the outcome of my RadarWar shots after my turn - that is for me, I see no point in studying a game after I made my shots - I'll do that when it comes back to be my turn again before I'm ready to make my next shot.
So if anything - maybe an option - so people who like to study their shots after they made it can still have that option - others like me who would rather get on to playing other games can quickly send, submit, and move to next game.
But I'm glad it sounds like you are working on something! :-)
Yes indeed. My concept, with that update, is to have the option be per-game-type, and one of the choices will be to move on automatically, but with a half-second delay -- so for games like RW, you see the result of your move and then it moves on for you... Lots to do before that update is here, though, because of the internal stuff it relates to separate from the small bit we're talking about here. :-)

I have to say that is a great idea, hit send and then on to the next game.

Thats a bad idea I feel because if you make it automatically go to the next game and some one is on "live" then you keep playing your games and with them and you will take you twice as long to get all the games over. And talking to many people most people have over 150-200 games to play especially with tourtaments going on
I'm talking about an option - not automatically the same for everyone - so if players like to stay at a game, they could pick that option. If a player likes to quickly move to the next game - they can pick that option.

I agree thanks for bringing that up. luckly it asks you before it does that or else I would have lost half of my games, I lose enough games LOL without hitting that button
I agree. I've already lost games this way, I click on the resign button so often that I have the habit of clicking the cancel button down pat, So I can do it pretty fast, the unfortuanate part is I sometimes go too far and click the OK button and resign my game by accident. It would be nice if it wasn't close to the send button, then this wouldn't happen to me.

Made hundreds of moves today and not a single crash! Thanks so much, T.J., for looking into this and making the change!
At first the change was a little bothersome, but you get used to it. Is there any plans to put in a button to send and move to the next game with one click?

I am having a great deal of problems now with the site moving real slow from game to game. This has been the only site that would move real fast from game to game. My Java and all of my cookies things are ok.

PS I know you work hard for us here, so believe I am not B_G. There is also a problem with each game loading and with every move I make. TJ we all know you are doing your best for us. Thanks Marie
That sounds like it's unrelated to this change or the IE/Java/whatever bug that's causing it. Probably best to drop us a note via the Contact Us link, maybe we can think of something that will help. -- T.J. Crowder First Primate Pocket-Monkey.com

when will we see the "prev" and "next" moves option next to the game board, with alot of the games i like to click on previous move to see where i moved on my previous turn and not have to scroll all the way down below the board and do a number of clicks to get to it and back..??
For the previous turn, there's a link just under the board "Show Previous turn" -- one click, and it's the previous turn! :-) This was suggested and put in about a month ago... -- T.J. Crowder First Primate Pocket-Monkey.com
I hit that "How to" Instructions ONE MORE TIME, and I'm going to scream. It's weird having it over there, but nice that it's beyond the "Save" button.
Thanks TJ and crew, you're doing a good job! But I wish the Instructions to Play were in a different place, cause I'm hitting that instead of "next game".....ARGHHHHHHHHH As long as your changing buttons how about putting the Intruction at the bottom of your sheet.
Hey T.J.....now see what you did moving that 'next game' button...now ya gotta re-design the entire site!!...lol jk. :) Great job....I no longer crash like I was either, just an ocassional glitch or two. Am happy .:)
